General Information

The N2 town of Albertinia is home to a large concentration of Cape Aloe, also known as Aloe Ferox. This hardy African plant has been used for many thousands of years to treat a myriad of ailments – from scratches and burns to sun protection and purgative medication. Evidence of its healing properties have been found in ancient Roman, Greek and Egyptian archives.

Albertinia boasts with two Aloe factories dedicated to the extraction and processing of Aloe juice to create a variety of beauty and wellness products. When you head further into town, you’ll find the healing treasure of the Champion Whispering Tree and the friendly Donkey’s of Klein Begin met Groot Genade. The town is also home to the BIG 5 at Garden Route Game Lodge, the incredible treasures of Tuinplaas which is one of the best child-friendly stops along the N2 and the old-fashioned charm of the Albertinia Hotel and Bar.

Business

The indigenous Aloe Ferox, or Cape Aloe, grows wild here and the leaves are collected and drained for its bitter-tasting sap used in the health and skin care industries.  Albertinia is probably best known for the two Aloe factories:  Aloe Ferox and Alcare Aloe.

Aloe Ferox gel and products are a major export product of this area.  The sap of the Aloe Ferox plant is an important ingredient of several medicinal products, many of which are also manufactured here in Albertinia.  Agriculture still plays a major role here with the cultivation of grain (wheat and oats), dairy farming, sheep and cattle farming.
