Malgas
General Information
Malgas is a small town on the banks of the Breede River in the Overberg region of the Western Cape province of South Africa.
Malgas is just 30kms south-east of Swellendam and is the perfect place from where to explore the De Hoop Nature Reserve. It is well-known for its hand-drawn pont crossing, taking vehicles across the Breede River. It is the only way across the river on the back roads between the N2 and Cape Infanta. The small town is a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Activities and Businesses
This area is known for its stunning scenery, great hiking trails and whale watching in whale season – something to do for the whole family. There is an abundance of fish in the Breede River including Cob and Garrick. This in turn attracts fish eagles and kingfishers to name just two beautiful birds providing an excellent base for the avid bird watcher.
