Geography and History
Rheenendal is a rural community situated just 12km from Knysna in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. Rheenendal is a mixture of pastures, ferns, forest and, depending which side of a hill you’re on, views of the Knysna Estuary and the Knysna Forest.
Activities
The area is known for being home to many prominent artists and crafters.
The circular journey starts at Knysna and heads inland towards Rheenendal and Barrington then dips down to Sedgefield, and returns along the N2 back to Knysna.
Rheenendal offers many arts and crafts, restaurants, plant nurseries and outdoor adventures.
At Armitage Crafts, indigenous wood is used to make beautiful bowls and pepper grinders, or you can indulge in some fresh honey or learn the secrets of successful beekeeping. There are many more venues to discover, so be bold and explore!
Explore the rich biodiversity of fauna and flora on many hiking trails through the forest.
Enjoy a picnic at Jubilee Creek or visit to the old goldmine at Millwood which takes you back in time to the excitement of the gold rush.
Visit the Millwood Tea Garden at one of he last surviving buildings of the gold fields.
