Keurbooms River and Keurboomstrand
General Information on Keurbooms River and Keurboomstrand
The Keurboomstrand is situated on a perfect part of the Garden Route, in the Western Cape province of South Africa. The word 'keurboom' is derived from the name of the local Keurboom tree or choice tree, with its pretty pink-mauve flowers.
Keurboomstrand is sheltered by a big mountain that is thick with trees and the beaches are beautiful with warm waters of the Indian Ocean that are warm enough to enjoy in Summer. Keurboomstrand is within easy reach of highlights such as Tsitsikamma, Storms River Mouth, Knysna, Nature's Valley and the many attractions of Plettenberg Bay.
Keurboomstrand offers varied activities to suit all tastes! The area is a sought after destination for campers, fishermen and avid sunbathers. The Bitou and Keurbooms rivers join here to form a tranquil lagoon close to the Keurbooms beach where swimmers can enjoy the gentle waters, but beware of strong currents at the mouth. You can explore the Keurbooms River by boat or canoe, or go on a guided tour on a motorboat. Boats and canoes are available for hire at the local angling club. Hikers can explore the Keurboomstrand beaches, or visit the Keurbooms Nature Reserve where some walking and hiking trails are available.
