ACCOMMODATION IN THE WESTERN CAPE

Accommodation in the Western Cape varies from luxury hotel accommodation to cosy bed and breakfast accommodation.  Self Catering holidays are also very popular amongst families travelling around South Africa. 

Hotels in the Western Cape are as beautiful as they are plentiful.  From the decadently luxurious to the well priced and comfortable, hotels in the Western Cape cater for all tastes and preferences.  Choose from a Hotel that overlooks crystal oceans or a Hotel that offers breathtaking mountain vies.

Game Lodges & Reserves are plentiful!   South Africa's game lodges regularly win world travel awards and are renowned for a sophisticated elegance combined with the great outdoors.   Guests can see Africa's "Big Five" – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard – while driving in an open vehicle, or simply enjoy the sounds of wildlife from a deck outside a luxurious camp.  From Big 5 reserves to coastal reserves, there is something for all budgets and tastes.

Guest houses in the Western Cape provide alternative lodging to hotels, but very often of the same standard with similar facilities and services.  Guest houses tend to be owner managed, but with the owner living entirely separately.    Most guest houses do not maintain full-time staff at night. The majority of guest houses in South Africa are graded.   Meals besides breakfast are often available, but usually on request.

Bed and Breakfasts (or B&B's) are usually smaller accommodation establishments that offer overnight accommodation plus breakfast.  Rates are usually lower than those of guest houses or hotels.  Bed and Breakfasts usually do not offer other meals and are usually family-owned, with the family living on the premises.  Typically, bed and breakfasts are private homes with a few bedrooms available for the use of travellers.  From the quaint Bed & Breakfasts to the luxury Bed & Breakfasts you will find something in the Western Cape to suit every taste and pocket. 

Self Catering accommodation can range from modern establishments with all the hi-tech extras to the very simple and basic, and therefore, they can be well suited for families on a budget.  Most establishments have fully equipped kitchens that include a fridge, stove, cutlery, crockery, cooking utensils, cleaning equipment etc.  The great thing about having your own kitchen means that you don't have to eat out all the time and it offers greater privacy and independence.  From self catering apartments at the coast, to the up-market self catering apartments in the cities, there is something to suit the whole family!

Farm stays are also a great way to get in touch with nature!  The  Western Cape has plenty of glorious countyside with farms offering accommodation.  These farms are usually situated in the rural areas and offer quality facilities in attractive yet unconventional surroundings outside of the town/city.  Rates are affordable and may include bed and breakfast or be self-catering.  Often there is game viewing, bird watching, hiking, biking, 4x4 routes, fly-fishing, horse riding and much more on offer!
